This podcast was created by SAN Magazine. The first 15 episodes have been financially supported by the Government of Canada. The episodes were written by SAN reporters Dušica Ivanović, Karolina Damjanović-Grujić, and Vesna Nedić, as well as SAN collaborator Mladen Obradović. The podcasts are read by SAN reporter Tamara Miličić-Grbić, and SAN collaborators Mladen Obradović, actor and director, and Kristina Bijelic, musician and philologist. A special guest in several episodes is Sacha Vigeant, our Serbian son in-law from Montreal, better known by his nickname “Sale Dugokosi.” Sacha is a Canadian married to a Serbian woman, and he writes a regular column for SAN Magazine called Diary of a Serbophile. The podcasts were recorded, mixed and mastered by Nemanja Trbojevic and Dusan Petrinjac. In this episode, SAN collaborator, musician and philologist Kristina Bijelic, talks about mountain hiking and natural spa destinations in Serbia.
More than half of Serbia is covered in mountains. The top ten hiking destinations in Serbia include Tara Mountain, Stara Planina, Uvac Special Nature Reserve, Homolje Mountains, Vratna Gates, Svrljig Mountains, Lazar’s Canyon, Rtanj Mountain, and the mountains Ovčar and Kablar.
Serbia has more than 1,000 sources of cold and hot mineral springs, mineral gases, and medicinal mud baths, plus over 40 natural spas, which are visited by over half a million tourists every year. Spas in Serbia are located in unique natural environments and are true oases of clean air, peace, and greenery. Let’s hear some interesting facts about the most popular and best-known spas in Serbia: Bukovička Banja, Vrnjačka Banja, Prolom Banja, Niška Banja, Sokobanja, and Banja Koviljača.

На свету има преко 1.500 националних паркова или резервата природе одговарајућег нивоа заштите. У Србији се налази пет националних паркова, који својим укупним вредностима надилазе границе Србије и укључени су у Европску федерацију националних паркова EUROPARC: национални паркови Фрушка гора, Ђердап, Копаоник, Тара и Шар планина.

In this episode, Kristina talks about the national parks of Serbia.
Worldwide, there are more than 1,500 national parks or reserves with appropriate degrees of protection. Serbia is home to five national parks whose value extends beyond the borders of Serbia, and which are included in the EUROPARC Federation, the largest network of European protected areas: Fruška Gora, Djerdap, Kopaonik, Tara, and Sharr Mountains National Parks.
Find out more about the Djerdap Gorge, one of the largest and longest gorges in Europe; learn why Kopaonik is called “the mountain of the sun”; learn the name of the most poisonous mushroom in Serbia, located on Fruška Gora, and of the wingless grasshopper found only on Mount Tara; and hear more about the large number of rare and endangered birds who live in the Sharr Mountains and why they are on the European list of Important Bird Areas.

When you finally visit Serbia, you’ll wish for it not to be your last time. It will enchant you with its beautiful landscapes, clean air, healthy drinking water, great tourist attractions and activities, and its special energy and hospitality.
Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe, and what makes it unique is the fact that for centuries, it was located on the very border of the Eastern and Western Roman empires, and later between Eastern and Western Europe, which can be seen in its architecture and general atmosphere of the city. In Belgrade, you can see Celtic, Roman, Medieval Serbian, Austro-Hungarian, Turkish, and Russian influences.

In this episode, Kristina travels with us along the Morava Valley in Serbia, where we find some of the most beautiful Serbian medieval monasteries of the “Morava school,” as well as breathtaking natural wonders.
On the almost deserted and empty land that was the Morava Valley and neighbouring areas, there developed an art that was based on the previous experiences of Byzantine and Serbian creators, but added many new elements, particularly in architecture.
We talk about the Nemanjić dynasty who ruled Serbia for more than two centuries, and the most famous monasteries from this period: Manasija, Ravanica, and Ljubostinja.
